left Maureen Kelly + The Design Loft, Inc

The Design Loft, Inc under the direction of Maureen Kelly has evolved into a leading studio of site specific fabric and metal sculpture for extreme and unusual spaces. From the beginning the direction has been on the unique integration of fabrics to art and architecture. Ms. Kelly and TDL work in collaboration with architects and designers to develop fabric sculpture that is completely integrated into a specific space.

Ms. Kelly’s interest in art began at Columbia College, Columbia Missouri where she received a BFA degree. She then completed her MFA work at Ohio University, Athens Ohio. Since establishing TDL she has worked with a strong inside support team and a team of outside specialist in the design, fabrication and installation of projects throughout the United States. Focusing on research to redefine the possibilities of art and architecture, TDL has specialized in the use of stainless steel as fabric, incorporating the sheerness, light reflective quality and durability of a fabric that is not affected by sun or environmental conditions.

The Design Loft, Inc. received three awards from the 2000 International Industrial Fabrics Association for projects at the Computer Associates Headquarters Islips, New York, the Renaissance Hotel Stapleton, Colorado and the University of Missouri, St. Louis Missouri. In 2005 the company again received awards from the International Industrial Fabric Association for projects at the renovated Eastpoint Mall, Baltimore Maryland. The Butterfly Project first seen at Rockerfeller Plaza and then put on permanent display at the Everett Children’s Garden at the New York Botanical Garden was published in the Fiberarts Design Book Six.

Along with her large scale sculptural work, Ms. Kelly and TDL have been supporters of First Night and Circus Flora, both located in the Grand Center Arts District in St. Louis. The company has been located in St Louis since 1991.
